The Debate About Alkaline Water

It seems that for every new health-related discovery that comes about, there is always a debate that gets sparked between proponents and opponents. This is also the case for alkaline water. This type of water has a higher pH balance level than traditional tap water and is said to be much healthier for the human body.

Some common examples of ways that alkaline water, also known as ionized water, can improve a person’s overall health and well being include speeding up the metabolism, weight loss, decrease in indigestion, regulating and improving normal blood flow, stabilizing and protecting the body’s cells, removing harmful toxins and waste materials and fighting free radical damage. Because the water has been ionized, proponents claim that the higher pH helps to promote the proper acid-alkaline balance in the human body.

Despite these positive reviews and claims, not everyone is that convinced that ionized water should be seen as a miracle beverage. Most critics believe that the benefits that come with drinking this kind of water are mostly hype or over exaggerated in order for companies to sell special products to make money. The fact that some companies even go as far as to say that ionized water can cure cancer and other diseases does not help either. Because there is no hard core, long term scientific research that has been conducted, skeptics do not believe that there is a huge difference between drinking regular water and ionized water.

In the end it is up to you to decide which type of water you want to drink—as long as you do not fall for any scams or products that sound too good to be true.
